SOMA Hoops is more than just a league. It is a living, breathing community built around growth, learning, and love for the game. We are committed to helping kids become better players—and more importantly, better people. When you step into a SOMA Hoops gym, you step into something bigger than a game. You step into a community that leads with heart, plays with joy, and lives the Spirit of the League.
In order to grow and preserve what is special about our program, we encourage community members to share moments to celebrate and concerns to be addressed. Below are links to submit sportsmanship experiences.

2025-26 Season Overview
- Open to all 1st - 12th graders living in South Orange and Maplewood NJ.
- Teams play 1x a week
- All activities take place at either South Orange Middle School or South Orange Recreation's Baird Gymnasium
- Season begins the weekend of December 5th-7th
- Season completes:
Feb 28, 2026 - For 1st & 2nd Divisions
March 7th - For 3rd & 4th Divisions
March 15th - For 5th-12th Grade Divisions
- League is volunteer led and coached

Girls 1st Grade - 845-930am

Girls 3rd/4th Grade - 1250-150 & 200-300pm

About Us
Community Basketball In An Amazing Community
A community based recreation league launched in 2023, SOMA Hoops seeks to make the game of basketball accessible to every 1st-12th grade child in SOMA. Through a combination of skill based learning and game play, our once-a-week league is led by SOMA volunteers (parents, guardians, high school coaches & players), with the goal of ensuring every child within our community can learn the game and have fun playing with their peers.
